Waste boom in China

CHINA WATCH A dazzling piece of news was on every Chinese newspaper’s headline today: China’s economy rose by 11.5% in the first half of 2007.

And as the economy explodes, all kinds of opportunity arises. A French company sees China’s economic potential in a different angle: the waste business. SUEZ Environment, French water and waste treatment service providers, plans to invest €100 million a year into China over the next five years to tap into its booming water and waste treatment business.

“We have generated over 15 percent growth annually in the past years in China and expect to maintain it in the next five years,” the [Suez Environment] CEO said. The region accounted for about 5 to 6 percent of its global revenue of 11.4 billion euros in 2006
