US Postal Service aims to slash energy use by a third

The US postal service has set a goal to reduce energy use by 30 per cent and called on employees, suppliers and partners in the mail industry to increase efforts to go green.

The message from the postmaster general, John Potter, is “become personally responsible for conservation” – taking simple steps like turning off lights, closing doors and turning off unused equipment which, taken collectively among the 685,000 employees of the US postal service, will have a dramatic impact on the environment.

Potter said:

“We need to take whatever steps we can to meet the needs of the present without compromising the future. Today is another step toward a culture of conservation here at the postal service.”
