Nicholas Stern, author of the influential Stern Report on Climate Change, says recession is the ideal time to build a low carbon future. Writing for The Guardian newspaper he said increased government spending should not be focused just on boosting short term demand but promoting growth that can be sustained.
He said:
“It must be structured carefully…
it's a veritable smorgasbord of green investment today. First up to the proverbial plate of VC goodness is EnOcean, a German firm that specialises in wireless systems for the builiding industry which are powered using 'energy harvesting'. Sounds a bit like what happens to humans in The Matrix, but is in fact far more benign.

Put on your party hats and spike the punch: it's party time at Trilliant's. The smart grid outfit has landed itself a nice tasty $40m in financing from an affiliate of MissionPoint Capital Partners and zouk ventures, both of whom are rather keen on putting their money into clean tech ventures.

Apparently, in the US of A, it's rather common practice to put some weird additive in the beer to turn it green on St Patrick's Day. Greenbang wonders why anyone would do such a thing to beer unless it was a punishment or it had gone radioactive, but there you go. Just don't get her…
Remember the heady days of June 2008? Things are so different, you know? Life was simpler. People knew their neighbours and they weren't afraid to leave their doors open. Greenbang wonders if fund managers ever get…
Greenbang believes the word solution is only acceptable in the following chemistry related joke: If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate!
It is not acceptable in the phrase 'ready meal solutions' as it appears in Greenbang's local supermarket. When did the word solutions become an acceptable substitute for the word products?…
Do you want to know how much Intel's investment arm, Intel Capital, invested in smart grid company Grid Net? Do you? Huh? Huh?
Well, Greenbang's not going to tell you. So there.
Not because she doesn't want to mind - Greenbang's not like that - but because she can't. Intel Capital has been boasting about its latest…
More hot news from the world of algae. Hey, there's no oxymoron there: algae is hot, hot, hot. And, apparently, oily.
Sapphire Energy has worked out a way of turning CO2 and water into oil with a little help from their friends, photosynthetic microorganisms like algae. With just three magic ingredients, Sapphire can turn out 'green…
