Pedal-powered pub lets you drink and exercise

fietscafeLeave it to the Dutch to find an eco-friendly and energising way to drink with friends while touring the town: the Fietscafe®.

The pedal-powered pubs — 15 of them have been operating in the Amsterdam area for the past decade — accommodate up to 17 people, including a driver. Not everyone has to pedal while imbibing, though: in addition to the 10 freewheel-equipped seats, there’s a pedal free seat and bench in the back.

Since getting its start, the Fietscafe® concept has expanded, both locally and overseas: the operators recently launched a women-only version, The Ladies Bar (bachelorette party, anyone?), while an entrepreneur in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area of Minnesota offers a similar bike-cum-bar — the PedalPub.

No word on whether any similar operation will make its way to Britain’s shores, but it sure sounds like our kind of bike ride.

Isn’t this considered drinking and cycling!
