- Peter L. Corsell, CEO of GridPoint, was this week appointed to the Entech Solar board of directors;
- North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University has received a $50,000 building education grant from Siemens Building Technologies Inc. The school will use the funding to launch a series of courses aimed at fostering excellence in the fields of architectural engineering and building energy management;
- Denmark’s BioGasol received a €10.4 million grant from the Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Programme to help develop a demonstration ethanol plant with a capacity of 5 million litres of ethanol per year;
- Colorado-based OPX Biotechnologies Inc. has secured series C financing of $12.1 million (US). The company provides technology to support genome research for optimising the use of microbes in biofuel production;
- Marks & Spencer this week signed the UK retail sector’s largest-ever renewable energy contract. The six-year deal with npower will provide the retail company with 2.6 terrawatt-hours of renewable electricity starting this April.
