2,400 miles, just 51 hours in a solar car

solar carGreenbang’s been slightly distracted of late by the solar race taking place in North America.

After 51 hours, 41 minutes and 53 seconds the 2,400-mile North American solar race was finally won by the University of Michigan.

Driving from Dallas to Calgary the winning car was over 10 hours ahead of its nearest rival and over 80 hours ahead of the only British entry, Durham University.

Whilst the cars are hardly practical; they only fit one person and are exceptionally hot inside, they do showcase exactly what can be done with the technology.  Oh, and they’re stunning too.

The University of Michigan car maintained an average of nearly 50mph throughout the 10 day event
